Half-In........

New Year... new resolutions, right?  For me, yes... sort of.  Not some crazy diet or health plan, but I definitely plan to eat cleaner food for the next few weeks to start the year off right.  The daily yoga regimen began afresh today, and the cleaner food is already on the roster.

Last night was some great sushi at Soho Sushi, and nary a grain of rice was left on the plate.  Tonight I was inspired by my neighbor who was making some Spanish food yesterday and invited me for a taste.  I decided to crank up the flamenco music and marinate the chicken with paprika, thyme, salt and olive oil.  It tastes better if you play the right music, by the way.  After a quick sear in the pan, it baked to perfection in the oven.  (Anemic poultry with no color makes me want to hurl.  Folks, always sear your chicken!) After a rest, the chicken was sliced over a salad of organic mixed greens, sliced Fuji apple and manchego cheese.  However................ lest my poor body go into anaphelactic shock after weeks of caloric debauchery, I played copy-cat to my lovely neighbor and made patatas bravas.

For those who don't know, these are parboiled potatoes that are then FRIED in olive oil and then made ecstatically happy when they are drizzled with a sauce of mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, thyme, garlic, lemon, salt and some other spices. Does that sound healthy to you?  Me neither.  But can you think of anything more delicious or soul-warming when it is 40 degrees outside?  Yeah, me neither.

Cheers to being half-in to the January-flavored resolutions, dear readers.  Take it easy on yourselves.
